Introduction
A course aimed at engaging with the decision or policy makers of the future to develop social,
environmental and economic solutions to the current problems of the world.
Aims:
• To understand the importance of the study of Social Sciences, giving students the time to
engage and discover a cohesive approach in solving the problems facing the world. The
course will be based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
• To provide space to develop and explore their ideas while encouraging the skill set of
evaluation.
• To encourage an academic analysis of how different countries approach policy making and
how world events shape their development.
Course Content
Each week centres around two of the Sustainable Development Goals. Students will gain an
understanding of each goal, time will be given to analyse each objective and evaluate how they
think the goal should be achieved. Discussion will centre on examples from different countries
and extension work will include research on particular subject areas.
Emphasis will follow on goals that are identified as most important by the Chinese government.
China is focusing its sustainable development in three key areas; eradicating extreme poverty,
building an ecological civilization and contributing to global climate and sustainability
governance.
Cross Curriculum subjects include: Geography, History, Economics, Philosophy, Politics
