AXA A3 Creatures of Curiosity

Description
During this course, we will consider a range of passages from all three literary forms – poetry,
prose and drama - which present creatures (both imagined and real) in interesting, meaningful,
and imaginative ways. In so doing, we will consider the contexts in which the texts were
written and the often-surprising authorial intent or deeper meaning. The lessons (and texts)
will provide incremental challenge and each session and section is intended to build on ideas
previously introduced. Through the study of the selected written works, students will develop
an understanding of forms, terminology, and structural devices. They will not only develop the
skills required to read between the lines and interpret meanings but will also garner skills useful
for the development and improvement of their own writing. Finally, the texts will be used to
introduce a wide range of topics of contemporary relevance, issues that will in turn form the
basis for discussion and the expression of personal opinions.
