Downe House Global Academy

AXA A3 Scratching the Surface of Literature

Description
During this course of lessons, we will consider a range of poems that are centred around the theme of change and progress. The lessons (and poems) will provide incremental challenge and each session, and section, is intended to build on ideas previously discussed. Through the study of the selected poems, students will develop an understanding of literary forms, terminology and structural devices. They will also develop the skills required to read between the lines and interpret meanings. Finally, the poems will be used as springboards for the introduction of topics such as human progress and technological advancement, issues that will in turn form the basis for discussion and the expression of personal opinions.
